Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski makes 2 key caches in what could be his last game

first_imgIn fight vs corruption, Duterte now points to Ayala, MVP companies as ‘big fish’ He was plenty mobile when it mattered most, though. His two biggest catches came after the painful hit.Gronkowski finished with six catches for 87 yards, including two receptions on New England’s only touchdown drive. With the score tied at 3, Tom Brady found his tight end for an 18-yard gain on first down . Two plays later, the Patriots had second-and-3 from the Rams 31 when Brady saw Gronkowski get free down the left sideline. He launched the ball and Gronkowski reached out to catch the ball and put New England at the 2.“When it comes to crunch time,” Gronkowski said, “I always find a way.”For a few moments, it was just like old times.Brady to Gronk.“Incredible catch,” Brady said. “He’s an awesome teammate, friend, and I’m just so proud of everything that he’s done for our team. He just had an incredible game.”Added center David Andrews: “It was a hell of a catch. The best players show up at the best time.”On the next play, Sony Michel ran it up the middle for a touchdown that put the Patriots ahead for good.“Tom threw it to me and I had to make a play,” Gronkowski said. “I just come through where it needs to be that time. He knows to trust in me and throw that ball and I’m going to go grab it.” But, for how much longer?Gronkowski has danced around the question of retirement whenever the question has come up, but he’s due $9 million in base salary next season — a hefty amount for an aging player whose health will always be a concern.Even if he wants to keep playing, the Patriots could very well say goodbye to one of their best and most popular players in the next few months. And, if that’s the case, Gronkowski and the Patriots went out a winner. As they have so often done.“I’ll tell you this: It was the most satisfying year I’ve ever been a part of,” Gronkowski said. “How we came together, the obstacles we had to overcome, the grind from the beginning of training camp to now, it’s just surreal.”Sports Related Videospowered by AdSparcRead Next View comments Was it his biggest catch ever?“You tell me,” Gronkowski said after New England’s 13-3 Super Bowl victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday night. “It’s up there. Beating hunger with the ‘Miracle Tree’

by ,

first_img1 September 2010South Africa’s 2010 Female Entrepreneur of the Year, Mavis Mathabatha, heads up a community project to cultivate the Moringa or “Miracle Tree”, the leaves of which have astounding nutritional properties. The Lammangata Moringa project, based in Tooseng village in the Ga-Mphahlele region of Limpopo province, produces and packages up to 10 000 tons a year of all-natural Moringa Leaf Powder. The project was launched in March 2009 by community-based organisation Sedikong sa Lerato in partnership with charity organisation Starfish Greathearts Foundation. The leaves of Moringa oleifera are loaded with essential nutrients, far surpassing the vitamin and mineral content of carrots, spinach, bananas and oranges combined. They also contain more protein and calcium than milk, plus all nine essential amino acids. The Moringa tree is easily cultivated in semi-arid areas, grows quickly, and is not invasive. The project, which employs 12 women and five men, also offers Moringa seedlings and education on nutrition, at no cost, to rural communities in the province. In 2009, they disseminated over 500 seedlings to rural households and child-care projects in the area, and brought nutrition education and Moringa awareness to more than 1 000 people.“I want to make an impact in my area, province and across the country through this project,” said Mathabatha, who walked away with the top award and R365 000 in prize money at the Female Entrepreneur of the Year awards ceremony in the Eastern Cape on the weekend.Mathabatha was the founder of Sedikong sa Lerato, which aims to alleviate hunger and poverty and promote healthy living and a strong sense of self for the orphans and vulnerable children of Tooseng.According to Mathabatha, using Moringa tree products has reduced malnutrition among over 350 children supported by the organisation.“Before we started, malnutrition was very prevalent,” she says on the Starfish Greathearts Foundation website. “But since we’ve started adding Moringa to the children’s food, we have seen remarkable results – the children no longer suffer from malnutrition.”Speaking after the award ceremony on the weekend, Mathabatha said a 25-hectare Moringa plantation had recently been planned. “This will drastically increase the production and sales of Moringa Leaf Powder, and proceeds from leaf powder sales will generate income to support our child-care initiatives,” she said.SAinfo reporter and BuaNewslast_img read more

Power from South Africa’s wind

This was mainly because large-scale wind generation was new to South Africa and institutional arrangements were not yet in place to allow independent power producers to feed energy into the national grid. What made the difference was that Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, then minister of mineral and energy affairs, proposed the Darling Wind Farm as a national demonstration project in 2000. She also requested international assistance in developing wind energy from the UN Global Environment Facility, UN Development Programme (UNDP) and Danish International Development Agency. That assistance led to the South African Wind Energy Programme (Sawep), a project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the promotion of wind power. It facilitated the creation of the Darling Wind Farm.Speaking at the 2003 World Wind Energy Conference in Cape Town, Mlambo-Ncguka said that wind energy had been one of the world’s success stories, and that it should play an important role in South Africa’s energy economy.Energy generated by the private sector “The significant thing to remember about the Darling Wind Farm is that it shows that wind energy can be done by the private sector,” says Andre Otto, Sawep’s project manager.“It was never intended to be a fully economical business,” he adds.It also served to demonstrate how to develop power purchase agreements with Eskom, South Africa’s public electricity utility.Such an agreement was signed with the City of Cape Town to buy energy from the Darling Wind Farm. The city then sells the electricity through so-called green energy certificates to buyers prepared to pay a higher price for green energy. For example, when the African Wind Energy Association decided to hold a conference in Cape Town in May 2010, the organisers purchased certificates for 9 900 kilowatt hours to ensure that the conference used only green energy throughout.Galvanising the industrySawep was one of several initiatives contributing to South Africa’s adoption of a target of reaching 10 000 gigawatt hours of renewable energy in its Integrated Resource Plan, an energy blueprint for the period from 2010 to 2030.The government is now soliciting bids from independent power producers to generate an initial 1 850 megawatts of wind energy within the next few years.“The establishment of Darling had an important catalytic effect in promoting wind energy in South Africa, as it showed that on-grid wind could be a reality,” says Lucas Black of the UNDP’s Global Environment Facility unit.As the Darling wind turbines revolve at a constant speed of 32 revolutions per minute, they represent the baby steps of an industry whose time has come.last_img read more

Facebook Debuts Graph Search, A Natural Language Powered Social Search Engine

by ,

first_imgNow we know what Facebook’s mysterious announcement is. Today at its Menlo Park, California, headquarters, Facebook took the wraps off Graph Search, an instant smart search that sifts through the company’s massive social graph to return relevant results.Facebook’s Third PillarAccording to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, News Feed and Timeline are the two extant pillars of Facebook, and Graph Search is about to be the third leg of the stool. But Graph Search is no Google – if you ask Zuck, anyway. “Graph search is not Web search. We’re not indexing the Web here, we’re indexing our map of the graph,” Zuckerberg said. “Graph search is very different. For example, you need to be able to easily ask a query like “Who are my friends who live in San Francisco?” Zuckerberg noted that rather than directing you to a link or page where users can find the answers to specific queries, Graph Search will deliver the answer, functioning like a social-powered Google Instant Search – but all within Facebook of course. To interact with Graph Search, users can type a query in natural language into Facebook’s meta search bar. According to Tom Stocky, Director of Facebook Product Development, “This isn’t keyword search… Graph search is structure. It understands search made up of these simple phrases.” Tags:#Facebook#search Guide to Performing Bulk Email Verification How Graph Search WorksType “Photos of my friends taken in Paris, France” and, assuming your photos are geotagged, you’ll get exactly that. Type “Friends of my friends who are single, male San Francisco residents who are from India” and you’ll get a hyper-specific subset of potential romantic partners, according to Stocky. Better yet, type “Photos of my friends before 1990” and you’ll get a wealth of social blackmail.  And when the social graph doesn’t have the answer? A partnership between Facebook and Bing will deliver Web relevant web results to fill in the gaps.Yes, that is Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg as a baby. According to Zuckerberg, Graph Search is a beta product in its very early stages. “It’s going to take years to index the whole map of the graph. We’re going to start rolling it out very slowly.” Facebook Graph Search will be available in a limited beta beginning today at Facebook.com/graphsearch. “It’s a really different product from anything else out there. This is who we are. We love building things like this.” A Comprehensive Guide to a Content Audit Related Posts taylor hatmaker Facebook is Becoming Less Personal and More Pro… The Dos and Don’ts of Brand Awareness Videoslast_img read more
