The Dallas Stars and Nashville Predators will meet for the 2020 NHL Winter Classic at Cotton Bowl Stadium on Jan. 1.In a surprising move, the NHL chose Dallas, Texas for an outdoor hockey game — the southern-most city to host — for the 12th edition. Previously, the most southern game was in Washington, D.C.  A reported 84,000 tickets have been sold with over 20,000 fans making the trip down from Nashville. Cotton Bowl Stadium has a capacity of just over 92,000. Last season, the Preds saw their Stanley Cup dreams come to a close against the Stars in a six-game opening-round series. They have already met once this season with the Stars skating away with a 4-1 victory.That win came just four days after the sudden and unexpected firing of second-year head coach Jim Montgomery on Dec. 10. Dallas has played well and will enter the game on a two-game win streak.
