Chief badminton national coach Pullela Gopichand has tagged Kidambi Srikanth’s performance in 2017 as some of the best badminton he has seen after the Indian won his fourth Super Series title of the year.Srikanth thrashed Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13 in just 34 minutes to win the French Open Super Series title on Sunday.”I think it has been an awesome performance. I think some of the best badminton I have seen, not only from Srikanth but I think from anyone. It’s a superb demonstration of some great attacking game from Srikanth,” Gopichand said to India Today. With Srikanth winning the French Open, this is the second instance this year when Srikanth has won back-to-back Super Series titles. The 24-year-old won the Denmark Super Series Premier last Sunday and lifted the titles in Indonesia and Australia consecutively in June earlier in 2017. Only Lee Chong Wei has achieved this feat earlier.???in ???? ???in ????º???in ???????in ????Srikanth Kidambi wins successive Superseries titles for the 2nd time in 2017 by clinching the #FrenchSS title! pic.twitter.com/aVzneRb4wq- PBL India (@PBLIndiaLive) October 29, 2017″Overall it’s amazing to see Srikanth win two back-to-back Super Series twice this year. I think what he has achieved is something phenomenal and for me would go down in history of Indian sports as one of the best performances in a year,” Gopichand expressed.Gopichand said that Srikanth’s aggressive display of badminton was some of the finest in the world of badminton. Srikanth became only the fourth male player in history, after Lin Dan, Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long, to win four Super Series titles in a calendar year.advertisement”I think definitely today, he has shown some of the finest aggressive badminton that the world of badminton, in fact, has seen.Gopichand also applauded the performances of HS Prannoy, who lost to Srikanth in the semi-final on Satuday and B Sai Praneeth for winning titles this year and taking Indian badminton forward.”It’s wonderful to see Srikanth win again but also credit to Prannoy for knocking out half the draw for him.”It’s also great to overall have these results because to have Srikanth, Prannoy and Sai actually reach the later stages of the tournament so frequently this year has been something amazing. Overall, very happy with the way the boys have taken Indian badminton forward.”Srikanth looked like a man on mission as he dismantled Nishimoto in just over half an hour.Despite some fightbacks from the Japanese and a bit of struggle early on, Srikanth well and truly settled in the game to march ahead to lift the title.
