Messi…wins appeal against FIFA ban Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, will play in Argentina’s next three World Cup qualifying matches after winning an appeal against a ban by football’s governing body FIFA on Friday.Messi was slapped with four match a ban after being accused of insulting a referee’s assistant.Messi has already sat out one match when FIFA’s disciplinary committee made its ruling before Argentina’s 2-0 loss in Bolivia in March.FIFA said its appeal committee considered Messi’s behavior “reproachable” for verbally abusing a linesman late in a 1-0 win over Chile on March 23. But the panel concluded the “evidence available was not sufficient to establish to the appropriate standard” required for the disciplinary committee to impose the initial suspension.“The appeal committee nevertheless underlines the importance of always showing respect to the match officials, stressing that such a principle is essential in football and any unsporting conduct that may be contrary to the principles of fair play cannot be accepted,” FIFA said in a statement.Argentina’s next World Cup qualifier is at Uruguay on August 31.Argentina is fifth in the 10-team South American group with four games left. The 2014 World Cup runner-up is in line to advance to a November playoff against a team from Oceania, likely to be New Zealand.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – In March, the enigmatic singer/songwriter Ginjah is scheduled to release Survival, his fourth album. The title, he says, sums up a challenging musical journey. The Rastafarian artist wrote all songs on the rootsy set which is produced by brothers Andrew and Sheldon Pennicott for their Young Veterans label.According to Ginjah, the title song is autobiographical, “because every time I lift my head above water someone want me to drown.”Ginjah began recording just over 20 years ago and has released three independently-produced albums. He was once affiliated with Beres Hammond’s Harmony House company for which he did a number of songs. He also toured with Hammond, opening shows for the singer in Brazil, Japan and Dubai. His songs, such as War Inna di City, Sweet Killer and Never Lost my Way have earned him a strong following in Jamaica but not as big as music pundits predicted. On Survival, he may have finally found the breakthrough. He stands out on songs like the title track, the resilient Jah by my Side and Fire Blaze.“I wrote all my songs. Writing is my thing, in my humble opinion all the songs address diverse issues,” Ginjah stressed“Writing these type of songs showed that I’ve come a far way. To God be the glory.”The 41-year-old artist was born in Hanover, a parish in rural Jamaica sandwiched by the resort areas of Montego Bay and Negril. He grew up in Central Village — a rugged area on the outskirts of Kingston — with a reputation for gang violence. His Central Village experience inspired several of Ginjah’s songs including War Inna di City. He credits music for keeping him from a life of crime. The Pennicott siblings recruited several top Jamaican musicians to work on Survival, including veteran guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith, who has recorded and toured with Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Ziggy Marley and Dennis Brown.Ginjah believes Survival may be his strongest work to date. It reflects his commitment to making music and resisting the lure of delinquency.“That’s why I won’t get carried away, faith is all I have,” he said.

Source: ESPN Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard made the first Game 7 buzzer-beater in NBA history after his fadeaway jumper bounced four times on the rim before falling through the net as time expired in Toronto’s 92-90 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.“It was great,” Leonard said. “That’s something I never experienced before — Game 7, winning shot. It’s a blessing to get to that point and make that shot and feel that moment, and it’s something I can look back on in my career.”With the game tied 90-90 and 4.2 seconds remaining, the ball was inbounded to Leonard, who was guarded by 76ers guard Ben Simmons. As Leonard dribbled along the right side of the perimeter, Sixers center Joel Embiid pursued him along the right sideline. With less than a second remaining in regulation, Leonard elevated in the right corner over Embiid’s outstretched arm and launched the shot.“We ran a similar play in the [Orlando] Magic [first-round] series, and I ended up just catching and shooting the ball,” Leonard said. “Embiid was guarding me. He’s taller and longer than me, so I ended up finding a spot that I work on, and I just knew that I had to shoot it high.”The final horn sounded as the ball reached its apex before caroming off the rim several times. As it did, Leonard squatted in the right corner, tongue between pursed lips, awaiting the shot’s fate. After the ball bounced through the iron, Leonard rose with his arms in the air and let out a scream before being rushed by teammates.“It was crazy,” Raptors guard Kyle Lowry said. “It was one of those moments where it’s just like a real-life game winner, Game 7, like, count it down when you’re back home, and everyone was celebrating like that. It was a pretty awesome moment.”The decisive shot was the final basket of a historic night for Leonard, who scored a game-high 41 points, and only the second buzzer-beater in a winner-take-all game in the postseason, after Michael Jordan’s iconic shot to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round of the 1989 Eastern Conference playoffs. Leonard’s 39 shot attempts on Sunday are second to only Elgin Baylor’s 40 in 1962 as the most in an NBA Game 7.The Raptors next travel to Milwaukee for the Eastern Conference finals. They face the top-seeded Bucks in Game 1 on Wednesday.
