Man Utd keeper De Gea defends inconsistent form: The odd mistake?by Paul Vegasa month agoSend to a friendShare the loveManchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has defended his inconsistent form.De Gea came in for some criticism last season, but the goalkeeper – who’s just signed a new contract – says he was happy with his performances. He told Sky Sports: “I think people, when they look back on last season, they are thinking about the last few months.“If you focus on the season as a whole and, in particular, the first seven months of that season I was quite happy with my form.”“You can say the contract is there in the background – it’s not even in the back of your mind – that’s put to one side. The day-to-day training, going out on the pitch, that’s what you’re focusing on – and helping the team, of course.“Talking about the odd mistake, form can come and go with any player, but you are more under the microscope when you’re a goalkeeper. It’s not easy to keep up very high standards.“I’ve been here for a number of years now and to be on top form all the time it’s tough. There are moments when you feel better in yourself form-wise and moments where you’re not quite so good. Mistakes happen, goalkeeper’s live with them and I’m no different.” TagsTransfersAbout the authorPaul VegasShare the loveHave your say

No Big Ten men’s basketball team has been playing better of late than Ohio State. The Buckeyes (17-5, 6-3 Big Ten) have won three straight games, including back-to-back comfortable wins against two ranked foes in Indiana and Maryland. We now know why Thad Matta’s team has been performing at such a high level. The Ohio State coach promised his team an NBA Jam arcade game for their players’ lounge in exchange for a win streak. The Buckeyes are on a winning streak, so Matta delivered the game Friday. Is there a better arcade game than NBA Jam?Nope. Ohio State faces Purdue at Mackey Arena next Wednesday.

With experience of playing in four of the biggest leagues in Europe, the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga, he is a man who has scored goals wherever he has been.”Furthermore, Boateng is a player who versatile to a fault. During his time with Las Palmas with Quique Setién as coach he played as an out and out striker, a typical number ‘9’. However, he is also able to play further back as he did at AC Milan, scoring twice against Barça in his time with the Rossoneri.”His ability to bring people into the game means he is excellent at playing behind the main striker.”Before the Blaugrana’s confirmation, Boateng himself had announced the deal in an interview with Sky Sports .”Barca, I’m coming!” he said. ” I’m sad to leave Sassuolo but this is a great chance.”The attacker also downplayed previous comments made about Barca’s rivals Real Madrid. In a 2017 interview, Boateng answered he preferred Real Madrid to Barcelona, while also stating in the past that he could have made it at the Bernabeu had he applied himself harder earlier in his career. However, the player says his focus is on his new club, and aiming to find the net against Real Madrid when the two sides next meet in the Spanish capital on March 2. “Don’t ask me about Real Madrid… is just the past! I only want to focus on Barcelona and I hope to score at Bernabéu for the next Clasico.”Barcelona will be Boateng’s fourth club in the past three seasons, though the former Ghana international has fared well at each of his stops. He found the back of the net 10 times in 28 La Liga games for Las Palmas in 2016-17, followed by a move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, where he scored six goals in 31 league matches. His time at Sassuolo also started well, as in 13 Serie A matches, Boateng scored four goals, though he has not found the back of the net since the end of October.Boateng will fill in attacking depth for the La Liga champions, as Barca manager Ernesto Valverde admitted the club was looking for options there after allowing Munir El Haddadi to depart earlier in the window .He becomes the second addition during the winter window, with Barca having also signed Valencia defender Jeison Murillo in January.

EAST LANSING, MI – NOVEMBER 10: Head coach Mark Dantonio of the Michigan State Spartans looks on while playing the Ohio State Buckeyesat Spartan Stadium on November 10, 2018 in East Lansing, Michigan. (Photo by Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)Arizona State just came away with one of the biggest upsets of the day against Michigan State. But apparently on the game’s last play, there should’ve been a penalty called against the Sun Devils. It could’ve change the outcome. The Spartans put together a nice drive with under a minute remaining in the game and down, 10-7. After getting into field goal range and with the clock winding down, the offense spiked the ball. As a result, the field goal unit came out on the field to attempt a tying field goal. The kicker drilled it, but a penalty was called on MSU for 12 men being on the field. On the re-kick, the kicker missed badly and the Sun Devils pulled off the 10-7 upset. But after further review, ASU should’ve been called for a penalty on the re-kick. An Arizona State defender leaped over a Michigan State blocker to try and block the kick. Doing so is now a penalty by rule. Turns out Michigan State should’ve had a 3rd try at the game-tying field goal.@DeanBlandino explains ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/0G7x9vEqoN— FOX College Football (@CFBONFOX) September 15, 2019Mark Dantonio wasn’t happy.“They need to take a good hard look at the officiating. This is the second year in a row the Spartans have lost to Arizona State. It’s also their third straight loss to a Pac-12 opponent (lost to Oregon in 2018 Redbox Bowl). If you’re an MSU player or fan, this loss will certainly sting for a while.

Champions League quarters: Guardiola upbeat despite Man City setback at TottenhamSon Heung-min’s 78th-minute strike helped Tottenham Hotspur stun Manchester City 1-0 in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg match on Tuesday. advertisement Reuters LondonApril 10, 2019UPDATED: April 10, 2019 09:02 IST When we don’t play well I say it, but I don’t have that feeling: Pep Guardiola (Reuters Photo)HIGHLIGHTSPep Guardiola said Man City controlled the game quite well during their 1-0 defeat at Tottenham HotspurManchester City have not overturned a Champions League tie in which they have lost an away first leg since 1971 Manchester City will host the Spurs in the return leg of Champions League quarter-final on April 17Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola remained unruffled despite his side’s surprise 1-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in their Champions League quarter-final, first leg tie on Tuesday.City had lost only once in their past 23 matches in all competitions, a run that had seen them lift the League Cup, reach the FA Cup final and trade top spot in the Premier League with Liverpool in a thrilling title race. They controlled large periods of the game against Tottenham, but looked vulnerable to the counter-attack and their usual slick passing occasionally seemed laboured. The quadruple remains possible but City will have to keep alive their European hopes the hard way — having not overturned a tie in which they have lost an away first leg since 1971.They lost 3-0 at Liverpool in the first leg of last season’s quarter-final so City’s task is less daunting this time.”Last season was much worse,” Guardiola told reporters. “Except for a few chances we conceded in set-pieces and some counter-attacks, we controlled the game and played quite well.”I would have liked us to score a goal but the situation is what it is.”City’s cause was not helped by Sergio Aguero’s first-half penalty miss after Danny Rose was harshly adjudged by VAR to have used his arm to block Raheem Sterling’s shot.Despite plenty of incursions deep into Tottenham territory, City managed only two shots on target as an attack that put 10 goals past Schalke in the last round misfired.City also laboured somewhat to beat Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday, but Guardiola was not about to start criticising his team.advertisement”When we don’t play well I say it, but I don’t have that feeling,” said the Spaniard. “They’re a team who press a lot but they couldn’t do that — especially in the second half, when we arrived many times in the final third.”We played so well on the second ball. Of the 118 Community Access Points (CAPs) established in various communities islandwide through the Universal Service Fund (USF), Kingston and St. Andrew account for 53, to serve the most populated urban centre in the island. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the USF, Hugh Cross, told JIS News that another 21 CAPs are being constructed in the Corporate Area, and 32 applications being processed. Speaking at a JIS ‘Think Tank’ on March 6, Mr. Cross said that similar facilities are being constructed in the rural areas, to ensure that persons have access to the internet. According to the CEO, CAPs are beginning to have a significant impact on the communities and the demand for them is growing. Mr. Cross pointed out that students can now do their homework/research in their respective community or at a point closest to home, and community members now have access to modern technology, without having to spend vast sums of money. “We currently have under evaluation applications for 138 additional CAP facilities. We want to ensure that more Jamaicans have access to the internet. At the moment we have 34 libraries, 112 schools and 57 post offices connected,” he said. Among the projected 138 CAPs, Mr. Cross noted that there will be a few model cyber centres, which will be set up in the major towns. As at February 5, 2013, some $9.7 billion has been collected by the USF by way of a levy of US$0.03 per minute on inbound international voice calls terminated to fixed lines and US$0.02 per minute on calls terminated to mobile lines in Jamaica.
The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) has facilitated over $200 million in sales of local goods to the tourism sector over the last two years under its national linkages strategy. “And this is not the full sales, as a number of business takes place which is not necessarily captured in our data,” said JAMPRO Export Manager, Marlene Porter. “The furniture sector has seen some tremendous growth. In agriculture, a lot of them (hotels) are virtually buying all of their vegetables locally,” she noted. Ms. Porter was speaking to JIS News at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Monday, April 29, where the three-day Jamaica Product Exchange (JAPEX) is being held. She noted that since 2004, JAMPRO has taken on, in a very structured way, the promotion of local products. “For the tourism sector we have developed a national linkages strategy and we are continuing to work with the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) to build the linkages within the local economy,” she stated. She said over the years, there has been a steady rise in the use of local products in the tourism sector, citing furniture and agriculture as the areas benefiting the most from the collaboration. “I am confident that there is a commitment from the sector to support local businesses,” she stated. Come the end of September, JAMPRO will stage its business linkages event at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, which will run for about three days. “This is the prime buying time for the hospitality sector, and this event will bring out local suppliers of goods and services, and the buyers from the hospitality sector, the purchasing managers, and owners of the gift shops,” Ms. Porter told JIS News. “We match the buyers and suppliers together. We are encouraging the buyers to come out and support our business linkages event,” she urged. The JAMPRO official said there are very good offerings in the local producing market, and persons should visit and utilize the agency’s Jamaica Business Opportunity Service (JBOS). They can obtain information by visiting www.jamaicabos.com, where there is a comprehensive on-line directory of suppliers and buyers, and up-to-date information for partnership opportunities for local firms. JBOS is a powerful matchmaking tool that is designed to bring business opportunities to entrepreneurs, by systematically connecting them with local and international buyers and suppliers. It also facilitates a direct communication channel to suppliers for efficient purchasing decisions. Turning to the business being conducted on the JAPEX floor, the Export Manager said the feedback from tourism stakeholders, indicate that are opportunities for local businesses. “They (hospitality sector) are optimistic, they are seeing good business, and it is looking good for the hotel sector,” she told JIS News.
